ANCOP CANADA (Toronto Area) Launches its 2010 ANCOP WALK event

Ancop International (Canada) Inc. a registered Canadian charity, whose corporate name represents an acronym of its statement of purpose -  "Answering the Cry of the Poor” has  since its inception in 2001 been soliciting and managing donations from generous donor partners in cities across Canada and the United States and with its primary Philippine contractor and developer, the Gawad Kalinga Development foundation, the charity has managed to build over 2,500 shelter homes for the poorest of the poor in the Philippines and under its Child Sponsorship Programs, its list of beneficiary children stands now at over 1,200 of various levels from elementary to college.

Its major donation event is the ANCOP WALK (formerly Ancop Can Walk in 2004 and GK Walk in 2006 to 2009).   Volunteer participants from various donor partner groups are invited to participate in this yearly event to walk and solicit sponsorships for shelter homes .  This year, solicitations for children educational assistance was included in the purpose of the walk.

 Last year, over 2,280 walkers joined in 10 cities (Toronto and Ottawa in Ontario,  Vancouver and Victoria in British Columbia, Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge and Fort McMurray in Alberta, Montreal in Quebec and Winnipeg in Manitoba).   Toronto alone had over 900 walkers who joined the event at the Nathan Philipps Square for a 5 km walk.

This year, ANCOP Canada launched its Toronto ANCOP WALK, slated for August 29, 2010 (Nathan Philips Square)  at the Quiapo! Quiapo! Restaurant at  Principal Rd, Scarborough on April 30, 2010 and over 170 representatives of the volunteer and donor partners, led by CFC Toronto and its leaders,  participated in the launching and the partaking of the simple but delicious dinner served by the restaurant.        

Richard Te, Ancop Canada’s marketing director welcomed the participants and Ricky Cuenca, chairman of the Board erstwhile exhorted the performance of the group and the cohesiveness of their charitable spirit that uplifted the poor.

Councillor Raymond Cho and his Canadian-Korean GYL team, led by Charles Kim related how they went to the Philippines and visited a village, Tribu Vilalge in Quezon City, where they participated in a build event for two days.  The ordeal was a different experience for the group and pictures showed jubilation and wonder despite the hard work done by the volunteers.     More pictures in www.ancop.ca

Alice Chiu, wife of Councillor Alex Chiu of Markham, Ontario also related their visit to Villa Monique, in Paranaque, the recipient of their group’s donation of 30 homes.  Both Councillor Alex and wife, Alice and their group were jubilantly feted in a simple program and ceremony by the beneficiaries of the village.  And Alice Chiu stated that they are considering completing the sponsorship of the remaining 22 homes so that the whole village is under the full donation support of their group. 

Various leading donation partners were also  there in the launching and they shared their insights regarding the charity work, particularly Paeng Nebres of PCCT,  Pidoy Pacis of Saladmaster, Minda Neri of PIDC, Jun Enverga of AFCM,  Bernie and Belen Consul of BLD Toronto.

Temi Pangilinan, Ancop Canada’s president  updated the participants on the new thrust of Ancop Canada with its second partner, CFC Ancop Tekton Foundation, with an initial 2010 offering of 1,527 shelter homes,  in L:ipa City and Metro Manila for  donation partnership and over 1,200 children for education assistance sponsorship.

The keynote address was delivered by the new  Consul General of Toronto, Honorable Minerva Franco, who was introduced by Nick Borja,  National Director of Couples For Christ Canada.    The adages and points of the keynote speech and tone of the charity work was exemplified  by what she said 

“A bell is not a bell until it is rung; a song is not a song until it is sung; and a Christian is not a Christian until he loves.” 

There were raffles of minor items by the organizers led by Alex and Dorie Ascano and Boyinng and Eliza Duque and their coordinator group.
